Friday 29 January 2016

Rommel stayed downstairs pretty much all day today.  He is finding spots to sleep that aren't behind the sofa, mainly because we have learned how to kitten proof the sofa, but I also think he is getting tamer.

Thursday 28 January 2016

Today Rommel finished his first box of cat food.  It comes in twelve pouches to a box.  He has one pouch a day, half in the morning and half in the evening.  When I pick up one of the pouches he started purring and meowing a lot, he also nudges my hand and tries to get into the packet before me.  After he has been fed and played a bit he tries to get another packet, or he attacks the box that the food is in.

Tuesday 26 January 2016

Rommel went for his booster vaccination.  I didn't go with him to get his jab but he didn't seem too upset when he got back.

Monday 25 January 2016

Rommel is getting rather friendly.  He won't run away if you put him on your lap, but he might nip you if he is in a playful mood.

Sunday 24 January 2016

Rommel didn't do much today.  He came downstairs for a but in the morning and slept inside the blanket box.  He didn't escape or even try to go behind the sofa.

Saturday 23 January 2016

We are training Rommel to be tame and friendly downstairs in the front room, and so we brought him down early.  But before long we forgot to shut the door and Rommel escaped back upstairs and hid under the bed again.  After a while he came out and then we brought him back downstairs and kept the door firmly closed.  He stayed down all day until 6.30pm then he came back up and I fed him.

Friday 22 January 2016

Rommel came downstairs for a while today. I brought him down at about 2:30 or 3 o'clock and we kept him down there until about 5:30. Most of that time he was sleeping on the back of the sofa or behind it.

Thursday 21 January 2016

This afternoon when we brought Rommel downstairs, he went for a bit of a walk. We forgot to fully shut the door of the room that we were in with him, and so after we had finished cuddling him and put him down to run around he went to sleep in the blanket basket. We looked away for a moment and when we looked back, he wasn't there. The first thing we did was make sure that all windows and doors that lead outside were shut. Then we looked under all the radiators and in soft place might like to sleep. Fortunately our cat was outside during this whole event. Eventually we found him in the small storage area under a small spare bed that was filled with unused blankets. We put him back in his cage. I think in future we will make sure that the door is closed properly. While writing this Rommel has been climbing on my lap and nudging my pen and making my writing untidy.
Last night Rommel didn't go in  his cage to sleep. I fell asleep before putting him in his cage. He slept on my padded chair. When we brought him downstairs he first slept under the radiator then when I called him he came and slept on my lap and watched television. Later I discovered his new favorite snoozing spot. It is on the wooden box that is next to the radiator.

Wednesday 20 January 2016

Rommel is continuously trying to get under the bed. I have had to reinforce some area of the card around the bottom of the bed. Wendy the relaxation expert came today and met Rommel for the first time today, my friend Yusuf also met him for the first time. We got some new hand sanitation liquid because the foam has run out, I think it is based on alcohol due to the cold chill that covers your hand when you use it.

Tuesday 19 January 2016

Today Rommel seems much more friendly. He sort of flopped down in front of us to get strokes. He is still not acting like a normal kitten but is definatly getting much more friendly.

Monday 18 January 2016

I brought Rommel downstairs for the first time today. We had to put our cat, Jemima, in another room with the door closed.  He explored the mantle piece and the top of the television.  There were clearly some interesting smells behind the sofa.  While downstairs he also climbed all over me.  Now he is trying to hide in the roll of carpet by climbing on my bureau.  Earlier today he went to sleep with me.

Sunday 17 January 2016

I got Rommel out this morning and seemed to have a cold. He was and is still sneezing a lot but other-wise he seems rather happy. Rommel is getting tamer and more kitten-like, instead of wearily poking his toy with his nose he  was jumping on it and throwing it about. He finds the the radio strange because he can hear voices that aren't mine when only I am in the room. Rommel is currently snoozing under a piece of rolled up carpet that is leaning against the wall like a sort of lean-to shelter. We have decided to make a rule that after touching Rommel we have to wash our hands with anti-bacterial foam, so that our own cat, Jemima doesn't catch an illness from Rommel.

I have just came up-stairs and have given Rommel his evening feed. The nappy sacks have arrived in the shopping this morning. I haven't got to use one yet.

Saturday 16 January 2016

This evening at 6 o'clock the new fostered kitten arrived. He is a twelve week old ginger tom. He looks like a desert fox, so I think I will call him Rommel. Erwin Rommel was a German war hero in WW1 and WW2. He was nicknamed "Desert Fox," that is why I have named the kitten Rommel.
When the ladies came with the cage that they put up and the kittens old blanket, so that it can feel comfortable in a new place.
